CHURCH / FAITH-BASED PRESENTATIONS

Puchta’s presentations and training workshops are a great way to highlight your church care ministry, reach out to the community and support families within your congregation that are facing health-related challenges. Puchta has had the pleasure of working with churches across the county including Willow Creek Church (Barrington, IL), St. Mark's Parish (Independence, MO), First Presbyterian Church (Fort Collins, CO), Williams Boulevard Baptist Church (New Orleans, LA), St. Andrews by the Sea (Hilton Head Island, SC), Faith Church (Cincinnati) and more.

"I have known Charles Puchta for six months in my capacity as chair of the Seminar Event Committee. Our committee did a national search for a speaker on the subject of aging and caregiving. Because of Mr. Puchta's excellent background, knowledge of aging & caregiving and national recognition, along with his extensive resource packet templates, the seminar committee made the decision to contract with Charles to come to New Orleans, Louisiana to present an 'Aging and Caregiving, Issues and Consideration' Seminar. I would rate Mr. Puchta's performance before, during and following the seminar as excellent. Mr. Puchta has exceptional speaking skills. He is warm, polite, and an expert in long term care issues."

Rhonda Cairo

POPULAR PRESENTATIONS

The following are five of my most popular presentations. In addition to these, I speak on many other health-related topics and can tailor or develop a presentation to meet the needs of a specific audience. All of my presentations offer practical insight, advice, encouragement, and hope. Participants gain the information and skills they need to cope, take appropriate action, and make informed decisions.

TITLE: Aging & Illness – What Now? What Next?

Growing old gracefully may be our hope; however, the need for assistance with daily living is frequently beyond our control. Often our hopes and plans for the Golden Years are disrupted by life-changing or life-threatening medical conditions.

This session explores:

  • The aging process, what’s normal and what’s not.
  • Typical reactions when people or close friends are diagnosed with a chronic illness or disease.
  • Effective ways to help individuals, families and friends cope and communicate.
  • Simple ways to cut through the clutter to find helpful information and make informed decisions.
  • Techniques to gain control over important aspects of life.

Target audience: People age 40+, people with a chronic illness, care receivers, and caregivers.

TITLE:  Strategies for Caregivers – Coping with Confidence

Caregiving has fast become an expected life event where the amount of involvement and responsibility tends to increase over time. Caregivers tend to face tremendous uncertainty and often find themselves overwhelmed, unprepared, and uninformed.

This session explores:

  • The many challenges caregivers are likely to encounter as loved ones age or become ill.
  • Common feelings and frustrations of both caregivers and care receivers.
  • Life from the care receivers perspective and ways to anticipate and address loved ones’ emotional, informational and instrumental needs with understanding and confidence.
  • Proven techniques to communicate with (difficult) family members, make informed decisions and turn good intentions into action.
  • Government and community-based programs, services and support to help meet day-to-day needs.

Target audience: Family and professional caregivers, and people who anticipate becoming a caregiver.

TITLE: Memory Concerns – Am I Losing My Mind or Just My Car Keys?

Forgetfulness is a common concern, especially as people get older. While we have all lost our car keys or forgotten someone’s name, many people wonder what’s normal and what can be done.

This session explores:

  • The different aspects of cognitive function - attention, memory and intelligence.
  • Normal age-related cognitive changes and changes associated with illness and disease.
  • Techniques to gain confidence and reduce anxiety when people fear losing their minds.
  • Tips to help people keep their minds sharp and increase function and performance.

Target audience: People age 55+.

TITLE:  Six Steps to Wellness and Healthy Aging

Wellness is the best form of preventative medicine. The alternative is traditional medicine which focuses on treating medical problems. For Baby Boomers and older adults who think they don’t have time for wellness, one thing is certain – they find time for illness.

This session explores:

  • The Six Dimensions – Emotional, Intellectual, Occupational, Physical, Social and Spiritual wellness.
  • Aspects of each dimension and steps people can take to improve wellness and quality of life.
  • Factors that affect the pursuit of wellness and a balanced life.

Target audience: People age 55+.

TITLE: Natural Life Transitions – Expect the Unexpected

There are certain age-related life transitions adults can expect. These transitions often affect our health, well-being, relationships and finances. While everyone’s situation is different, the issues and challenges tend to be quite similar.

This session explores:

  • Becoming a family caregiver.
  • Facing the realities of aging.
  • Dealing with disease.
  • Coping after a loved one dies.

Target audience: People age 40+, people with a chronic illness, care receivers, and caregivers.
